Job Title: Secondary Special Education Resource Program Teacher

Job Summary: The resource teacher will provide direct, individual, group instruction and co teaching instructional delivery to eligible special education students. The resource teacher will work directly with general education teachers to ensure that special education student's Individualized Education Plans (IEP's) are implemented and that accommodations and modifications are in place so that special education students can access the general education curriculum in the general education setting. The resource room teacher will participate in Student Support Team meetings as required.The teacher promotes and develops successful learning for students, performs instructional and related duties in accordance with District and Board Policies and terms of the teacher contract. The teacher will also develop and foster relationships with staff, parents, students and the community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop, evaluate, coordinate, conduct, schedule and implement REED, MET and IEPs for caseload students with a variety of disabilities.
- Evaluate and assess academic levels of functioning of special education students for IEP and MET meetings
- Ability to evaluate students current levels of academic and assessment data of progress towards IEP goals and the curriculum.
- Ability to apply knowledge of Co-teaching and best practices to meet student needs.
- Consult with and provide support to classroom teachers to ensure implementation of the IEP, accommodations/ modifications and supports in the general education setting.
- Create and maintain a schedule of service.
- Participate in Student Support Team meetings as required.
- Participate in professional development.
- Adhere to federal, state and LESA special education rules and guidelines as applicable.
- Provide formal and/or informal assessment of a student's academic status and learning needs.
- Be able to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the supports provided by the special education provider and document accordingly.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- BA or BS
- Valid Michigan teaching certificate with endorsement in at least one area of special education
- Experience in working with students in groups and individually.
- A strong commitment to educating students with disabilities in the least restrictive environment
- Proficiency integrating technology into instruction as a tool for student learning
- Knowledge and ability to implement data collection techniques for monitoring student growth.
- Ability to clearly communicate assessment results in IEP's, in written and oral form, to parents and other professionals.
- Ability to cooperatively participate in Student Support Teams, evaluations, and IEP's.
- Ability to complete and maintain required records, forms, and reports in a professional and timely manner.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, allocate time, and maintain schedule flexibility.
- Ability to effectively communicate with students and parents regarding students' goals and progress.
- Ability to coordinate and plan classroom activities with general education staff to meet curriculum expectations and IEP goals.
- Must meet Highly Qualified requirements as defined by the Michigan Department of Education.
