Position Overview:
Fowlerville High School is seeking a dynamic and creative Play Director to lead the production of our afterschool plays, which may include one in the fall and another in the spring. The Play Director will oversee the entire production process for each play, from auditions through to final performance, fostering student talent and delivering high-quality theatrical productions that engage the school and local community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Direct Seasonal Plays: Oversee all stages of the fall and/or spring play productions, including auditions, casting, rehearsals, and performances.
- Collaborate with Students and Staff: Work closely with student actors, stage crew, and school staff to develop and execute a cohesive production for each play.
- Creative Vision: Select or collaborate in selecting plays that suit the abilities and interests of students. For each production, bring creative direction to life, ensuring an engaging performance for audiences.
- Schedule and Organize Rehearsals: Plan and lead rehearsals after school for productions, ensuring students are prepared and performance-ready by the scheduled show dates.
- Production Coordination: Collaborate with technical staff, costume designers, set builders, and any other involved personnel for each play to ensure all production elements are executed smoothly.
- Student Development: Mentor and coach students in acting techniques, stage presence, and other performance-related skills. Foster a positive, inclusive environment that promotes teamwork and creativity for both productions.
- Communicate with Stakeholders: Maintain open communication with parents, administration, and other relevant parties regarding rehearsal schedules, production progress, and performance dates.
- Budget Management: Manage the budget for costumes, props, set design, and other production costs for both plays, ensuring financial responsibility.
- Adhere to Safety and School Policies: Ensure that all rehearsals and performances comply with school policies and prioritize the safety of all participants.
The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District.
